Well where do you start with the Star Wars prequels..yes they could never live up to expectations but did they have to be so bad! Episode I especially is basically just a glorified toy comercial, it just looks so different from the original films. Its probably easier to list the few good points of this movie first yeah Darth Maul is a good character and the lightsabre fight is pretty good.. er think thats it for the highlights. The rest of the film is just dire! Jar Jar, Jake Loyd (although his acting is probably better that Hayden Christians in the next two films), Brian Blessed as a talking frog, Midi Clorians(??), need i go on? The original trilogy (along with the Rocky films)where basically my life growing up (yes i was a bit sad) but George Lucas couldn't have got it more wrong when he made these prequels! To the Sarlacc with you George Lucas!

Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace (1999) - ***
People describe this as the biggest let down in cinema history. It's flaws are numerous (Jake Lloyd, Jar-Jar, utter lack of pace and Ewan McGregor's seeming aversion to acting in this movie) but it has it's high points, too. The stodginess of the script created by insistence on explaining every last thing that is happening around the characters means the pace is dragging. But placed in between these droughts of Liam Neeson looking hurt, we have nuggets of Star Wars fan gold. The podrace. The Gungan battle. The three-way lightsabre fight. All of these manage to grant Episode I enough appeal to outweigh the dullness of having every last detail of the Star Wars universe elaborated on. Simply put, it still manages to have a bit of fun.
